PROJECT MANAGER

Position Description:
The primary responsibilities of the position are to manage all aspects of the project to ensure performance to contract specifications, meet or exceed the highest level of customer satisfaction and meet or exceed financial goals. This will include thoroughly reviewing and understanding the scope and specifications of the sold work. The Project Manager has the responsibility to communicate and direct needed actions to customers, sales, credit, engineering, manufacturing, shipping, and any other Paul Mueller Company department necessary to accomplish the primary responsibilities.

Principle Areas of Responsibility:

  • Communicate with the customer during all phases of the project keeping the customer informed of project's progression. A thorough communication log should accompany each project.
  • At order entry review, the new order with regard to what was sold, detail out the specifications needed, and ensure that all questions that need to be answered are assigned to get the answers. This assignment will be in the form of an action item to the correct person with a copy to their manager. An action item list will be maintained until all issues are resolved.
  • Work with Engineering, Purchasing, Planning, and Manufacturing directing the schedule commitment of each phase necessary for the timely execution of the sold work. This would encompass managing all aspects of the order from advance bills of materials, design engineering, Customer approval, final engineering, and manufacturing to meet the required schedule. If appropriate, coordinating any advance design review meetings to communicate effectively to the team processing the order.
  • Manage all changes to the project to ensure that the Paul Mueller Company is compensated for all impacts due to the change, that the change is timely communicated to all departments, and to manage the change to achieve the highest profitability possible.
  • Work with accounting to insure that all payment terms of the project are up to date including down payment, and payments due before shipping.
  • Add and maintain factual comments on variance report on projects with a variance of $3,000 or more.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Engineering with a Business Minor is preferred. Other degree fields and related experience will be considered.
  • Must have excellent communication and team skills, both oral and written.
  • Must enjoy working with people, having strong people skills combined with a mechanical aptitude that will allow for effective communication of the product to our customers.
  • Must be a self starter, goal oriented person who will aggressively pursue order management issues for successful resolution.

FIELD ENGINEER

Position Description:
Reports to the job Project Engineer, Project Superintendent, or Assistant Superintendent. Also maintains contact on the working level with subcontractor's foremen. Assists in carrying out a variety of basic field duties at the job site related to the construction of industrial process facilities by personally carrying out the following duties. In the performance of these functions, the Field Engineer is responsible for the protection and promotion of the interests of Mueller in all matters.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Providing and maintaining building control lines by the use of transit and level.
  • Complete line and grade work for structure layout and vertical and horizontal control and alignment by use of engineering instruments and techniques.
  • Assist in maintaining blueprints and field books.
  • Assist in preparing daily construction reports.
  • Assist in preparation of a contract items list.
  • Ensure that materials and equipment are released for fabrication or manufacture in time to meet the construction schedule.
  • Prepare estimates for the changes in the works from subcontractors.
  • Check work as it is being placed to be sure it is accurate within accepted tolerance.
  • Study contract drawings, specifications and shop drawings to ensure proper coordination of built-in items.
  • Perform various responsibilities as assigned by Assistant Superintendent, Project Engineer, or Project Superintendent such as overseeing certain subcontractor work activities to ensure timely and accurate performance of subcontractor's work; performing certain subcontractor supervision duties; or performing certain engineering duties.
  • Assist in the preparation of final records for the project.
  • Maintain EEO compliance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
A four-year college degree; one or two years related experience and/or training (internship/Co-op); or equivalent combination of education and experience a plus. Knowledge of all general contract, subcontract documents, drawings, specifications and surveying instruments. Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Shows initiative to perform duties beyond assignment-specific duties. Demonstrate self-motivation, maturity, management know-how, leadership and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing; present well as a person. A basic understanding of accounting and cost control procedures. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Project Management software, Spreadsheet software, and familiarity with Microsoft Office suite of programs. Knowledge of Microsoft Project desirable.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Performance of the required duties will require physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, ability to climb ladders and negotiate work areas under construction. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Performing this job requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, sit, talk and hear, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works on-site at the construction work site where the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock.
